Port Royal Golf Club is truly a complete experience with something for everyone, both on and off the course. Having recently hired Executive Chef Eric Seagland away from one of the most successful restaurants on the Island, Port Royal provides a selection of menu items that include savory “Blue Crab BLTs”, “Lowcountry Reubens”, and appetizers on a Happy Hour menu that includes seasonal flatbreads and more. With an antebellum clubhouse setting and oaks surrounding the back porch, the clubhouse plays host to many weddings, corporate functions and group outings.

Most recently, it hosted the Island’s most prestigious local golf outing, the Hilton Head Open on the Robbers Row course named for its historical significance. The 9th and 10th holes made up the original “Main Street” of the Island during the Union’s occupancy in the Civil War. Its 54 holes provides three distinct experiences and can accommodate players of all skill levels, with Robbers Row likely to be the most challenging with its distinctive greenside collection areas that made Pete Dye famous. Barony is a pure resort-style layout that’s exceedingly family- friendly, its wide fairways and run-up approaches make it ideal as a tune-up round. Planters Row is almost completely a “core” course, with fewer fairway homes and condos than any other on the Island. It is a classic shotmakers golf course, with tight tree-lined fairways and is a formidable test if you dare hit driver. Toward the end of the day, it becomes Hilton Head Island’s only “footgolf” course. Played with a soccer ball and using 21” cups, the increasingly popular sport can be walked and savored as a family or group in about 2 hours.

The picturesque surroundings and relaxing ambience at Port Royal has even drawn the interest of the Southeast’s premier classic car show, the Concours d’Elegance and Hilton Head Island Motoring Festival, which returns to Port Royal this fall.

The people at the Heritage Collection on Hilton Head Island, who bring you more Island golf than anyone- 7 very different courses with 135 exciting holes are celebrating those differences in the revitalization of their on-and off-course experiences. They’re out to make golf more interesting, more challenging, and absolutely more fun than ever before.

Owned and operated by the Heritage Golf Group, the 54 holes at Port Royal offer an exemplary golf experience and a history lesson or two. The Barony Course was designed by George Cobb in the early 1960s as one of Hilton Head Island’s first courses. Accuracy is paramount here, especially on approach shots to the heavily guarded greens. The Robber’s Row Course, originally done by Cobb and Willard Byrd, was redesigned in 1994 by Pete Dye. It is sited on a former Civil War encampment and features historical markers throughout the course. Planter’s Row was designed by Byrd in 1984 and hosted the Hilton Head Seniors International event. A departure from its sister courses, Planter’s Row features small, undulating greens and water in play on 10 holes.
